Dovetail Designworks
Dovetail Designworks is run by Vancouver Island local James Smith, with the intention of building fine furniture the way it was built in past times.
Saws, chisels and hand planes are his main tools and his artists eye brings his concepts together. Every piece is a one off original design.
One of James' passion in his building is using reclaimed wood, whether it's reclaimed railroad ties, timbers from demolished buildings, fallen log's on the forest floor or simply beautiful wood being thrown away. He will try to include some reclaimed wood in each piece before it hit's the landfill, a burning pit or is simply rotting on the forest floor.
James artistic mind is always trying to design something new, something unique and something that will get his artistic juices flowing.
All the woods used in each piece are thier original colors, james does not believe in staining his wood, it's original true forms is where it should stay.
James has his apprenticeship in Joinery / cabinetmaking and has certificates in furniture design and in furniture building.
He has also been a painter of fine art for many years and has received many awards.
